Something doesn’t smell right!

Is it time to escape to Ecuador?

You open the refrigerator door and a strange, pungent odor attacks your olfactory senses.  Your nose tells you that something isn’t quite right.  Everything looks alright; nothing is out of place. It’s all familiar just like the thousand other times you opened the fridge but this time there’s a faint odor. You ignore it and rush back to the TV because the commercial is over and you don’t want to miss anything on the big flat screen.  You quickly forget your unpleasant encounter with the fridge until you open it again the next day. This time the odor has ratcheted up a few degrees and you ask out loud, “What is that smell?”  What does this have to do with your Escape to Ecuador?   Stay with me, I’m getting there!  Finally, you surrender to the fact that there’s something rotten or going bad and you’d better do something about it and quick before it becomes unbearable.  Immediate action is required so you tear the fridge apart to find the culprit.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that’s exactly what’s happening in the good old USofA. You’re getting that faint whiff that things aren’t quite right in America. Depending on your political affiliation and belief system that “odor” could vary from a whiff to outright stench.  It is undeniable though, that things aren’t right and getting worse.  We all are subject to Normalcy Bias and find it hard to accept new evidence contrary to our deep rooted beliefs.

The Economy in Ecuador Is Growing!

Miriam and I chose to Escape to Ecuador for several reasons.  One of the most compelling is our shared belief that America is in serious trouble and it’s not getting better, the exact opposite of what the mainstream media tells you.  We believe that the quality of life in America is deteriorating and things are getting worse. Call me a pessimist if you must but I prefer to see myself as an optimistic realist.  We realized that our lifestyle would have to change dramatically to survive on our social security and that we might outlive our investments and end up old and broke.

The Shrinking US Economy

Let me ask you a few questions.  Have things really improved since the crash of ’08?  Are consumer prices going up or down?  Are there really plentiful good paying jobs available or is unemployment higher than ever?  Why are there over 47 million Americans on welfare?  Has the housing market really improved?  Is the retail sector expanding or contracting?  Are Banks lending money to small business for expansion?  Why are so many people losing their homes and declaring bankruptcy?     And what about the budget deficit?  Can any rational human being even begin to understand the staggering numbers of our national debt?  Sooner or later that bill will have to be paid!  But how? We’re broke and don’t even know it!

Escape To Ecuador

You found our web site because you’re probably considering your own escape to Ecuador because of some of the troubling questions I just asked.  Whether you are a staunch conservative or a far out tin hat conspiracy theorist you know, in your heart of hearts, that things are not well in America and your retirement options there are limited.  I consider myself an armchair economist and spend a great deal of time reading. What I read about the US economy troubles me deeply.   My wife and I chose to retire in Ecuador for a plethora of reasons.  Foremost was the fact that living expenses are about 1/3 of what they are in America.  Food is cheap and plentiful.  The weather is as close to perfect as it can get.  Who wouldn’t want to live in a great condo overlooking the Pacific Ocean?  Healthcare is good and affordable. We both have personal experiences in that arena and will share our firsthand healthcare stories in the future.

Whether you agree with me or not, that’s OK. I believe in “live and let live” and everyone is entitled to their own opinions.  But, if you smell something funny and are considering your Escape to Ecuador please contact us.  I’d love to talk with you about our experiences here and help you in any way I can. I promise to be as straightforward as I can be and tell you the unvarnished truth, as I see it.   We are thriving here!  Your retirement years may turn out to be the best ever!
